We are happy that the government has committed itself to create a Chief Science Officer.
However, Canada had a Science Advisor before, and in 2008 his appointment simply was not renewed. This time, we want to get it right! We want the position of the Chief Science Officer to be established through an act of law, to guarantee its independence and ensure that it cannot be easily eliminated.
We have therefore created an e-petition to Parliament, which must be debated once it has reached 500 signatures. Of course, the more signatures we are able to generate, the greater the impact will be. Kennedy Stewart, the NDP Science Critic, is the MP supporting this petition.
